Tohoshinki - DARKNESS EYES Lyrics + Translation

As far as idol groups go, you don't get much better than Dong Bang Shin Ki (Tohoshinki), but their Japanese music has been kinda "bleh". But recently, I think they are becoming comfortable and are releasing some pretty good songs. This song is Track #7 on their latest cd, "T", which I recommend to all the jpop fans out there if you don't already have it.

*disclaimer* please do not put any translations from this site on other sites, LJ and/or forums, link to this page instead. Feel free to use the romaji & japanese lyrics though, as they belong to the artist. It would be great if you provided a link back here, but not necessary.

Japanese translation is a depiction of the translator's interpretation of the original words, and differs from person to person. Since I can only interpret what I see/hear based on my own knowledge and experiences, feel free to disagree with any of the translations you read. I'd actually love to hear comments, corrections and feedback...

DARKNESS EYES - 東方神起

DARKNESS EYES - Tohoshinki

I'm just in deep, aoi kodoku no (umi no naka)
I don't know how? mae ni susumezu (tachidomatte)
hagareru ochiteku itsuwari no kakera
nigiritsubushite shitatari ochiru BLOOD
DARK IN MY MIND boku wa yowasa ni kakurete

deguchi no nai, kunou kakae
kawaita sekai tatazunderu

* kokoro, fukaku, kareta kanjou, seek in the dark, here is no light
yume no hazama, samayoi tsudzuke, darkness on my eyes
kinou, kyou mo, asu mo, mienai kotae wo sagashite
boku wa... boku wa... ittai doko e to, yukeba ii no

sotto sawattara, sugu ni (kowareru)
mujou na yasashisa nado, iranai (usotsuite)
omoi kokoro no tobira shimeta mama
iki mo dekizu mogaki kurushinderu
I just boku wa ima, morosa ni hitaru yo

zaiaku no EGOIZUMU de

takaku habamu yami no toride
Seek in the dark, here is no light
hitomi tojite, hohoenderu darkness on my eyes
oremagatta kanjou, boku wo jamashite iru nda
boku wa... boku wa... kotae mienai, zetsubou no naka

ユンホのラップ YUNHO's RAP
Raindrops falling from heaven
I couldn't remember
They took away my love so weak
It's raining on my heart
My stupid broken heart
Baby please, don't go
No light, no sound

deguchi no nai, kunou kakae
kawaita sekai tatazunderu

* repeat

SEEK IN (THE) DARK HERE IS NO LIGHTS (CAN'T SEE THE LIGHT)
SEEK IN (THE) DARK FEEL A DARKNESS EYES
(DARKNESS ON MY EYES)

I'm just in deep, in a blue sea of lonliness
I don't know how? But I was froze and couldn't move forward (1) froze as in stopped not as in cold.
The lies come unstuck and are falling down in broken little pieces
I smash them with my hands and blood drips down
I hide in weakness from the dark in my mind

A waterless world would come to a halt
so I face the suffering without a way to escape

* I seek in the dark because there is no light here, and the feelings deep in my heart have died
There's darkness on my eyes, so I'll continue wondering in the valley of dreams
I search for answers that I couldn't see yesterday, today, or tomorrow
Where should I... Where on earth should I go?

Even if I gently touch me, I'll break immediately
I don't need you to lie to me with momentary kindness
Because I've closed the door to my burdensome heart (3)
I've been in agony and can't even breathe
I just give in to frailty now (4)

And so the egoism of my sins (5)

There's a fortress of darkness that eminently blocks the way
So I seek in the dark, there are no lights here
I closed my eyes and smiled, darkness on my eyes
My feelings have gone back and forth and are disturbing me
I... I'm in dispair and can't find the answers

ユンホのラップ YUNHO's RAP
Raindrops falling from heaven
I couldn't remember
They took away my love so weak
It's raining on my heart
My stupid broken heart
Baby please, don't go
No light, no sound

A waterless world would come to a halt
so I face the suffering without a way to escape

* repeat

SEEK IN (THE) DARK HERE IS NO LIGHTS (CAN'T SEE THE LIGHT)
SEEK IN (THE) DARK FEEL A DARKNESS EYES
(DARKNESS ON MY EYES)

TRANSLATOR NOTES: In my translation, I reordered and fixed some of the engrish to make it flow better

(1) I used froze here to mean stuck/stopped in tracks not as in cold/freezing.
(2) literally "kawaita sekai means "dried world" but I think the meaning is better conveyed as a "waterless world
(3) literally "omoi kokoro" means heavy heart, but I don't like the way it sounds. A heavy heart has the same meaning as a heart the has a lot of burdon/emotions weighing on it. This is the reason for my translation.
(4) I use frailty because this is more of a moral weakness than a physical one, so I thought this word conveys this better than weakness/brittleness
(5) egotism - an inflated feeling of pride in your superiority to others

I'm sure this song will be/has been translated many times just because it's TOHOSHINKI, but I really like this song, it was fairly easy to translate, and it should be their next single!

I'm not that big of a J-DBSK fan, I also prefer their Korean song :D
I actually liked the collabo with Koda Kumi *lol I am probably the only one XD*
Thanks for translating <3

I liked the collab with Kumi too. I think this cd is closer to their korean stuff.

Ryoko-chan, how have you been doing? Seems like I haven't talked to you in a while. Still studying Japanese at your university?

I haven't listened to the songs yet, but I watched the live of Purple Line and it seemed more TVXQ for sure~ <3

True true~ Well, I gave up since our teacher wasn't capable of teaching anything during the lessons and it was self-study only at home. So I'm focusing on my major law again and practise a bit Japanese with a friend of mine. She's teaching me Kansaiben XD
Didn't you want to learn a special suburb dialect which usually only men speak? I remember something like that....

I like self-study, I work better when I can read/learn on my own. I guess that comes from being home schooled.

Kansai-ben has all the good dirty language LOL. But isn't it basically Japanese with different verb/sentence endings? Everytime I come across a word I can't figure out, I find out it's Kansai-ben....maybe I should study it more too.

BTW I was trying to learn the Okinawan dialect....

I learn better by listening, but since I took up Spanish too, Japanese is only ranked 3rd ^^; I'm just glad I have someone I can chat with and who's willing to correct my mistakes XD

Yeap, mostly using different endings like -hen instead of -nai. ^^ I love the crazy ways of the Kansai people. :D

Okinawa? I didn't know that it was Okinawaben is such a yakuza-like dialect!

Mostly the Okinawan language is dying and no one hardly speaks it anymore. The Okinawan people were forced to learn standardized Japanese.

I like the Kansai people too, I'm definitely going to that region in Japan, they know how to party!

Oh, I didn't know! Aren't the people willing to talk Okinawaben amongst themselves? D: Sad sad~ Save the dialect, hime XD

Osaka is a must in 2009! I just have to force my friends to tag along.

Thank you so much for translating this! This was already my favorite song from the album and now I love it even more.

Is it okay if I use your translation to sub their concert performance? I promise to credit you on the video itself, in the post and provide a link back to your LJ. If you want to see how I've credited other subbed videos, you can check them out at [info]worldvidz.

I do now, but not so much at first. I still prefer their Korean ballads though. They put more feeling into them, imo.

Thank-you for such awesome translations. I love every word of this song, and ever since I heard it, it has been a fave of mine. The very beginning always makes me just shut my mouth and listen. I love the keening piano line.
