TRANSLATOR NOTES:

(1) kanji reads "hitomi", but he sings "me"...both meaning "eyes"
(2) Has the sky ever look unusually orange or purple? On sunny days when there is little wind, certain chemicals from pollution react in the sunlight to form photochemical smog and ozone. In America we call this a "ozone warning" or as haveing a "high level of ozone" but I left the literal meaning in the translation for artistic purpose
(3) The Japanese 10 yen coin was issued with serrated edges for a five year period beginning in 1953. All 10 yen coins since and before had smooth edges.
(4) "coal tar" is a black, thick, opaque liquid obtained by the destructive distillation of bituminous coal, used in making dyes, medicines, plastics, paints, etc.
(5) the Showa era is the period of Japanese history corresponding to the reign of Emperor Sho-wa (Hirohito), from December 25, 1926 to January 7, 1989. It was the longest reign of all Japanese emperors.
